Vanessa Gilles, defender for Angel City FC and the Canadian women’s national team, has joined French side Olympique Lyonnais on loan through June 2023. The move comes after Lyon suffered a long-term injury to left back Griedge Mbock. The loan is for the entire European season, including Lyon’s run in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. There is no option to buy, though. In the announcement, Angel City FC also extended Gilles’ rights through December 2023.
