After going down with a knee injury against the Washington Spirit on Sunday, the Portland Thorns have announced that forward and current NWSL Golden Boot leader Sophia Smith had sustained a mild medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain in her right knee.
Currently, the Thorns sit atop the table with a two-point lead over North Carolina with just five games left in the regular season. The Thorns continue their road trip with a match at Racing Louisville this upcoming Saturday. The team announced that Smith’s status is currently week-to-week with no further information about a concrete timeline.
