According to a report by The Athletic, Atlanta will become the NWSL’s next expansion franchise, bringing the league to 17 teams after the addition of Boston and Denver next season. Per the report, Atlanta’s expansion fee will be a record $165 million, with the team set to debut sometime after 2026. They will be owned by billionaire Arthur Blank’s AMB Sports and Entertainment, which also owns the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United FC, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
