Sophie Schmidt is hanging up her Canada jersey after the upcoming World Cup. Canada qualified for the tournament during last summer’s Concacaf W Championship. The 34-year-old stated in a media call on Tuesday that she would retire after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Schmidt, along with members of the Canadian women’s national team, are in an ongoing protest against the Canadian Federation. Schmidt said she would not play until matters are resolved.
