On Sunday, Chelsea Football Club confirmed that striker Sam Kerr sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the team’s January training camp in Morocco.
Per Chelsea’s release, “Sam will be assessed by a specialist in the coming days and then begin her rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.”
Kerr is a crucial figure in Emma Hayes’ side, who lead the Women’s Super League title race halfway through the season. Chelsea is the sole English team left in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and sit atop group D with the knockout round on the horizon.
The Australian international also captains her national team, who are set to compete in the final round of Asian Football Confederation Olympic qualifying in February ahead of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
