UEFA announced on Monday that the Russia is banned from the 2022 Women’s European Championship, as Russia’s war on Ukraine continues. Portugal — the team Russia defeated in the qualifying playoff — will play in Group C alongside the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. Russia’s results in World Cup qualifying have also been declared null and void, eliminating hope of playing in the 2023 World Cup. Russian clubs are also banned from the 2022-23 Champions League.
