U.S. men’s national team legend Landon Donovan is set to become interim coach of the San Diego Wave as first reported by San Diego Futbol. The Wave unexpectedly fired coach Casey Stoney in June despite signing her to a three-year contract extension in January. Paul Buckle, who served as an assistant for the Wave in 2022, has served as interim coach since. Donovan, who earned 157 caps with the USMNT during a lengthy MLS career, has limited coaching experience, having led San Diego Loyal SC for three years before the USL franchise folded.
