President of Canada Soccer, Dr. Nick Bontis, announced his resignation on Monday. Bontis, who was elected in November 2020, said in his statement, “I acknowledge that this moment requires change.” The federation is currently in labor discussions with both its men’s and women’s sides and according to Bontis, “Canada Soccer and both of our National Team Programs have the real potential to sign a historic collective bargaining agreement.” His resignation is effective immediately.
