The North Carolina Courage will honor midfielder Sam Mewis as the first member of its Ring of Honor during the club’s home opener on March 16. Mewis, a World Cup champion with the U.S. women’s national team and three-time NWSL champion, announced her retirement last month due to a lingering knee injury. Originally drafted by the Western New York Flash, Mewis played for the Courage from the 2017 inaugural season through 2021.
