The return of Utah Royals FC to the NWSL is “a function of when, not if,” according to David Blitzer, the lead investor of the group purchasing Real Salt Lake. Utah folded in December 2020 and was replaced by the Kansas City Current. Then NWSL said at the time that there was an option for new RSL owners to “re-establish the Utah Royals FC name and franchise at Rio Tinto Stadium” in 2023.
