Mary Earps retiring from international play immediately

England goalkeeper Mary Earps has elected to end her national team career before the European Championship in July, she announced on Instagram Tuesday. “‘Never rush something you want to last forever.’ And I didn’t,” the 32-year-old stated in her post. “It’s now the right moment for me to step aside.”

Earps was the starting keeper for UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 in England, a tournament her side won, defeating Germany 2-1 in extra time in front of 87,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. She was also the No. 1 for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where England reached the final, losing to Spain 1-0.
