FIFA President Gianni Infantino posted a statement on his personal Instagram on Thursday, praising Spain while lamenting that their celebrations have been “spoiled by what happened after the final whistle and what continued to happen in the following days.” On FIFA’s involvement, Infantino wrote “This should never have happened. But it did happen and FIFA’s disciplinary bodies immediately assumed their responsibility and took the necessary actions. The disciplinary proceedings will continue their legitimate course.” Infantino congratulated all participants in FIFA’s 2023 Women’s World Cup especially Spain. What this means in terms of concrete action from FIFA is unclear but he adds to the large majority condemning Luis Rubiales’ actions.
