About Us

The Equalizer launched in July 2009 with the vision of giving women’s soccer the coverage it deserves. Within a year, the site turned into the top source for Women’s Professional Soccer news.

A decade and a half later, The Equalizer remains the leading, independent voice of authority covering the National Women’s Soccer League, the four-time World Cup champion and four-time Olympic gold medal-winning U.S. women’s national team.

The Equalizer was founded by Jeff Kassouf, whose experience ranges from a Sports Emmy-winning role with NBC Olympics, to NBC Sports’ daily operations, the first U.S. editor of FourFourTwo, and his current role as ESPN’s lead writer for the NWSL and USWNT.

The Equalizer has long been home to the best up-and-coming voices shaping the future of women’s soccer. Our writers frequently go on to write for major publications, including the New York Times, CBS, and Sports Illustrated.

To date, EQZ remains among the only living archives of many events that occurred in WPS and the early years of the NWSL.

In 2018, we switched to a subscription model to make this kind of reporting and storytelling more sustainable for more writers. You can directly support that effort by subscribing today.
