On Monday, July 20, NJ/NY Gotham FC announced that their head coach, Juan Carlos Amorós, would be taking a five-week parental leave following the birth of his family’s second child.
During Amorós’ absence, his role will be filled by lead assistant coach Shaun Harris. Shaun Nahas, a former NWSL head coach (North Carolina Courage) who currently works as a consultant for Gotham, will help out as the club’s interim director of methodology.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at Gotham FC for supporting us unconditionally while we were deciding to take this step,” Amorós said in an official press release from the club. He is expected to be gone for five weeks.
Amorós holds a remarkable record since joining NJ/NY Gotham FC in 2023, boasting the highest winning percentage in NWSL history for any leader who has coached over 25 games. Across all competitions, he has overseen 60 wins, 29 losses and 27 draws.
