Preseason is about to look very different for two National Women’s Soccer League teams, as NJ/NY Gotham FC and Racing Louisville prepare to travel to Cali, Colombia, to take part in the inaugural Women’s Cup South America tournament.
The four-team tournament will be hosted by América de Cali in Guerrero Stadium and will also feature Deportivo Cali Femenino. The event, which is scheduled for Feb. 27 and March 1, will mark the first time any NWSL team has traveled to South America.
The Equalizer spoke exclusively with Women’s Cup president and CEO J.P. Reynal, as well as Racing Louisville general manager Ryan Dell, about the appeal of the tournament and the inherent opportunities and challenges that come with traveling abroad for the preseason.
