After the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup wrapped up, an influx of players made their ways back to their respective Liga MX Femenil clubs. A few players, too, joined the league altogether.
One of those players was Priscila Chinchilla, a Costa Rican women’s national team player. At the World Cup, Costa Rica fell flat, placing fourth in a tough group that included Spain, Japan and Zambia. Chinchilla was named to the roster, but did not find the back of the net in a defensive system.
After the tournament, she joined Club Pachuca, where there are powerhouse forwards and stars, including Jenni Hermoso and Charlyn Corral. However, Chinchilla has slotted in nicely, scoring three goals in four games. Two of those goals came in a big match against Club América in Week 12 of the current Apertura season.
América are the reigning champions, and it was this matchup that featured as last season’s finale.
Chinchilla’s first tally came off a pass from Hermoso, the World Cup winner. Chinchilla timed her run perfectly, and her speed put her miles ahead of her defenders. She took a touch to settle the ball, cut in and hit the ball toward the low corner of the net.
The Costa Rican’s second goal came off the same angle, but the assist is going to be a head-scratcher. Marta Cox, the Panama international, was able to link up with Chinchilla thanks to a long ball that skirted across the face of four defenders. The Tica got her shot off in a similar fashion to her first.

Charlyn Corral and Alice Soto added goals for Pachuca to earn three points. Pachuca is sitting in seventh place and is enjoying a hot streak of four wins in five matches. Having Hermoso back helps, but Chinchilla has been an offensive powerhouse for Tuzos.
For Club América, the reigning league champions had a quick start, with a 6th minute goal from Alison González and a 29th minute goal from Kimberly Rodríguez. América held Pachuca scoreless in the first half, but couldn’t handle their offense in the second. It was América second loss of the season, with their first occurring in Week 9 against Tigres.
