Carusa, a graduate of San Diego’s Del Norte High, was recently at the FIFA Women’s World Cup representing Ireland. The Equalizer sat down for an exclusive chat with the forward about joining the Wave, playing abroad and a historic World Cup with Ireland.

“I am extremely excited to be back home and to have the opportunity to play professionally at my home professional club,” Carusa told The Equalizer. “It honestly seems like a dream come true. When I was growing up here and playing for San Diego Surf, it wasn’t something that was possible at that point in time. It’s crazy now to be able to do this and it was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up.”

Having a professional team where she grew up is a dream come true. Carusa hopes to become a trailblazer.

“I look at it as continuing to trail blaze to continue a tradition of success and popularity of the sport here,” she said. “[It] is such an honor and I am happy to know [that] younger me would be so excited to know that I’m in this position to do that.”
