The World Cup is the pinnacle of professional soccer. Teams head into their own bubbles and some players delete all social media. Keeping your cool in a highly pressurized environment isn’t always easy.

“I think there’s something that I’ve learned and I’ll try to help continue is when to have fun, because it’s obviously a stressful environment,” defender Emily Sonnett said. “I think the vibes of the group is dependent on ‘can we have a good time’, [and] when to have a serious time whether it’s training/off pitch/on pitch. I think that’s something that the veteran group is actually really good at, kind of like being able to relax in a high stress environment.

The Equalizer attended the U.S. women’s national team media day in June in greater Los Angeles ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and asked players who the funniest person on the team is.
