“I was really interested in the NWSL,” Gudmundsdóttir told The Equalizer. “You hear that it’s physical and it’s fast. I’ve been following over the years and watching games, and it’s always been a dream of mine to play here and see how it would fit me and my style of play.”

Gotham head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós knew Gudmundsdóttir would be a great fit not only in the league, but on a Gotham side that was in the midst of an offseason rebuild following a last-place finish in 2022.

“Svava is a versatile forward with the ability to score and create goals,” Amorós said. “She occupies the back line and constantly applies pressure. She has the knowledge to understand different moments of the game and the physical ability to get behind the opposition back line and be effective in the box. Svava also has a lot of valuable experience in international competitions. She is a team player and I’m confident she will help us in our growth as a team at Gotham FC.”

The chance to play under Amorós was a significant factor in Gudmundsdóttir’s decision to sign with Gotham.
