Current bolster midfield with addition of Gautrat, DiBernardo

The signings of Morgan Gautrat and Vanessa DiBernardo in Kansas City last week marked a significant changing of the winds as the pair committed to two-year contracts with the Current. The league’s first-ever free agency period has been off to a slower start than many anticipated but as teams and players continue to navigate the change, bigger names are finding new homes.

Gautrat and DiBernardo have been mainstays in Chicago with Gautrat arriving in 2018 and DiBernardo playing since the Red Stars came into existence in 2014. The pair, along with Rachel Hill and Danielle Colaprico signing in San Diego, mark the latest in a mass exodus out of Chicago. A probable symptom of the environment fostered by Arnim Whisler as he refused to sell the team until entering an agreement with Inner Circle Sport last week
