EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Lindsey Horan’s volley is the viral clip making the rounds from the United States women’s national team’s 4-0 victory over Mexico on Monday, and with good reason; the goal was sublime. There were other gorgeous goals in the pair of 4-0 wins, spread out over five days.
The results, with all due respect to an improved Mexico side, were expected. In these games, U.S. head coach Vlatko Andonovski was looking to fine-tune the tactics he and his team have worked on all year after such a dormant 2020. Equally impressive about Horan’s goal — and several others — was the buildup.
“I’m very happy with the finishing but also the way we created these opportunities,” Andonovski said after Monday’s game.
