The latest: In the club’s first match since rebranding as Real Madrid, the side formerly known as Tacon were overwhelmed by titleholders Barcelona, 4-0 in the Spanish capital. The result put the traditional rivals on opposite ends of the table after the opening week of play. It was the first El Clasico on the women’s side, nearly 120 years after the men’s teams first squared off.

Atletico Madrid, unseated by Barcelona last season, won 2-0 at Espanyol. The latest goal to decide a match came off the foot of Carla Bautista who nailed a penalty in the 90th minute to deliver Valencia a come-from-behind, 2-1 win over Sporting de Huelva. Elsewhere newly promoted Eibar won on debut, 1-0 over Real Betis on Juliana’s goal in first half stoppage time. Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano were postponed.
