The 2020 National Women’s Soccer League Challenge Cup saw its second straight scoreless draw played out on Wednesday as the Chicago Red Stars and Portland Thorns remained winless through their first two games.
Rookie Morgan Weaver had the game’s best opportunity in the 14th minute, when her full volley from six yards out was tipped over the bar by Chicago goalkeeper Emily Boyd.

The Thorns enjoyed the majority of opportunities but failed to convert, registering 16 shots but only putting three on frame. Midfielder Emily Ogle had a shot deflected just wide of goal in the final minutes.
Both teams heavily rotated their rosters from the first game, allowing players to earn valuable minutes and more playing time than usual.
A bit of squad rotation for the Chicago Red Stars, while Bella Bixby gets her second-straight start in goal. We’ve got lineups!! #PORvCHI | #NWSL pic.twitter.com/o7G6OyICwN
