Who got the better of the Kealia Ohai-Katie Naughton trade?

Monday brought the first big trade of the National Women’s Soccer League offseason: the Houston Dash sent forward Kealia Ohai to the Chicago Red Stars in exchange for defender Katie Naughton and the No. 18 pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft.

At first glance, the trade seems to serve the needs of both Chicago and Houston. The Red Stars pick up a veteran attacker who tied for the league lead with 11 goals back in 2016. The Dash acquired not only a proven center back to help bolster their back line, but a draft pick they desperately needed to build depth.

For the trade to be a win for Chicago, Ohai will need to return to the goal-scoring form she has had in the past and help the team replace the 18 goals that Sam Kerr took with her when she left the team this offseason for Chelsea.
