The United States women’s national team will face Costa Rica, Panama and Haiti in the group stage of 2020 Olympic qualifying. The top two finishers from the eight-team regional tournament will advance to the Tokyo Games in July.
Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and St. Kitts and Nevis will compete in Group B.
The tournament will take place from Jan. 28-Feb. 9. Group A will compete at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. Group B will compete just to the south, at HEB Park in Edinburg, Texas. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals at Dignity Healthcare Center in Carson, California. Each semifinal winner will qualify for the Olympics.
Canada has claimed the bronze medal at each of the last two Olympic Games. The Americans have won four of the six Olympics to feature women’s soccer and are the two-time defending World Cup champions, but fell to Sweden on penalty kicks in the 2016 Olympic quarterfinals.
