The latest: The three top sides all put up easy wins at the midweek with Arsenal remaining in control from the second position thanks to their two matches in hand over Manchester City and Chelsea. There were no league matches over the weekend but Manchester City collected a trophy, beating Arsenal on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the FA WSL Cup. The result was a bit of revenge for the final a year ago, won 1-0 by Arsenal.

The latest: Atletico Madrid inched closer to the title with a 6-1 handling of Albacete. Jennifer Hermoso scored two of Atletico’s half dozen to pad her lead atop the Golden Boot race over Charlyn Corral, 18-16. Corral scored the only goal for Leavante in a 2-1 setback to Espanyol. Barcelona kept pace with the leaders, their return to the win column a 3-0 away win over Real Betis. Their deficit remains six though meaning they still need help from around the league to get to the top even if they beat Atletico Madrid on Match 16. The relegation battle remains dramatic. Sevilla earned three key points in a 2-1 win at Logrono to jump to safety for the time being.
