2019 Women's World Cup

Soccerex USA 2018 recap: How can women’s soccer realize its commercial potential?

The Equalizer founder Jeff Kassouf moderated a panel on women’s soccer at Soccerex USA 2018 in November in Miami. National Women’s Soccer League managing director Amanda Duffy, Concacaf head of women’s football Karina LeBlanc, LaLiga head of women’s football Pedro Malabia and Portland Timbers/Thorns president of business Mike Golub spoke about the commercial potential and opportunities around women’s soccer in 2019 — a World Cup year.

Duffy and Malabia shared insights into how their respective leagues are approaching the expected World Cup bump next year, while LeBlanc spoke about her new role with Concacaf. Golub shared insight into how the Thorns have both complemented Timbers business but also brought in unique sponsorship of their own. The latter topic was raised in relation to UEFA’s recent un-bundling of women’s soccer rights.
