Dash coach Clarkson in regular contact with Sofia Huerta about 2019 role

As of Friday last week, there was still one Houston Dash player on loan in Australia that new head coach James Clarkson had yet to make contact with. Clarkson did not volunteer the identity of that player, but he made it clear she is not Sofia Huerta.

During a phone interview with The Equalizer on Friday, the newest NWSL coach was on his way home to watch Sydney FC’s 5-2 win over Adelaide United from the night before. Huerta, playing right back for Sydney, scored a goal in the match that also featured Amber Brooks and Veronica Latsko in the lineup for Adelaide.

“I’ve actually spoken to her a lot,” Clarkson said of Huerta. “I was corresponding with her this morning. She’s asked me to give her my opinion on her performance.”

As the 46-year-old Clarkson begins to strategize what his roster will look like in April, the Huerta situation could be the most delicate one he faces.
