The Netherlands and Argentina are on the verge of World Cup berths after big wins in the 1st legs of their respective playoffs last week. Thursday in Sarandi, just outside Buenos Aires, Argentine was cruising on a comfortable two-goal lead when they hit for two more in stoppage time against Panama. That gave them a 4-0 lead heading into Tuesday’s second leg in Panama City. Mariana Valeria Larroquette scored the opener for Argentina, Eliana Stabile added a brace and Yamila Tamara Rodriguez also scored.

A day later, Netherlands scored three times in the second half in Utrecht to take command against Switzerland for the final UEFA spot. Sherida Spitse put the European champs ahead in the 49th minute. It stayed 1-0 through the 70th before usual suspects Lieke Martens and Vivianne Miedema converted to make it a 3-0 final. The action moves to LIPO Park in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, also on Tuesday.
