Bush: Keepers highlight defensive duel in Seattle

Last night the Seattle Reign and Chicago Red Stars played to a scoreless draw on rainy night in Washington. The Reign’s unbeaten run extends to four, while the Red Stars haven’t won in six games, although all but one have been draws. On a day of rather boring soccer where only one game of four had more than one goal, it was hardly a classic, but as always, there were a few takeaways.

Never fear, the keepers are here

It hasn’t been a great season for goalkeepers as a whole so far, with each outstanding save matched by a bizarre error. That was not the case last night, as each one tallied a clean sheet and four saves. Lydia Williams, in her second match of the year, was outstanding in goal for Seattle. Her double saves in the 42nd minute highlighted her athleticism, ability to read through traffic, and command of her box. …
