Portland Thorns FC coach has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount for an incident on the field following his team’s 1-0 loss to the North Carolina Courage on Saturday.
The National Women’s Soccer League made the announcement on Friday, providing few details. There was no video of the incident at the time of the announcement. In a statement, the league said:
The NWSL Disciplinary Committee has determined that Parsons committed misconduct in his interactions with the officials in violation of Section 11.3.6, “Major Game Misconduct”, as well as Section 11.3.3, “Coach/Staff Misbehavior” of the League Operations Manual.
In addition to the automatic one-game suspension for the dismissal by the Official, Parsons was further assessed an additional one-game suspension and fine.
The Portland Thorns FC are currently appealing the decision of the Disciplinary Committee to the League office.
Parsons is set to miss the Thorns’ second game of the season, on Saturday away against the Chicago Red Stars, as well as the team’s home opener on April 15 against the Orlando Pride.
