Final rosters were due at 4 p.m. EDT on Monday ahead of this weekend’s NWSL openers. Clubs had to reduce their rosters to between 18 and 20 players. Players placed on the 45-day disabled list (including season-ending injuries) or on maternity leave do not count against the roster limit. Additionally, players selected from the Boston Breakers dispersal draft who were either contracted or selected in the 2018 draft do not count against the roster limit.
The biggest surprises of the day came out of Utah and Houston. The Royals will start with Amy Rodriguez on the 45-day disabled list. She last played April 16, 2017 when she tore her ACL in FC Kansas City’s opening match of the season. The Royals also added Rachel Corsie who had been in camp as a Non-Roster Invitee and announced that Brittany Kolmel (nee Taylor) is taking a leave of absence from her soccer career.
The Dash waived Tiffany Weimer, who they acquired in an offseason trade, and former 1st round pick Cari Roccaro. The Dash announced a 19-woman roster that includes three goalkeepers. One of the keepers is Sammy Jo Prudhomme who is part of the Breakers exemption. Houston area reporter Corey Roepken has said the Dash may still make additional signings before the weekend.
Christen Press elected not to report to the Dash and does not count against the club’s roster limit.
In Washington, sibling dreams were put on hold when Elizabeth Wenger and Maddie Huster failed to make the team. Wenger’s brother plays for the Houston Dynamo and they would be the first sibling combination to play matches in NWSL and Major League Soccer. Huster’s sister Tori is the last remaining Spirit player from the club’s inaugural roster.
Below are rosters for all nine NWSL clubs. Players on the disabled list or maternity leave are listed below the active roster.
