The Orlando Pride announced Tuesday morning that Camila will be out for an extended period of time with a torn ACL in her right knee. The Brazilian also suffered a sprained MCL. The injuries occurred when she was shoved down by Nora Holstad in the 32nd minute of Saturday night’s 3-2 Pride win in North Carolina.
The club did not announce a time table for Camila’s recovery. ACL tears generally require eight to twelve months of rehabilitation following surgery. The loss is a blow for the Pride who have deployed Camila in a variety of roles throughout the season playing her high near Marta at times and as a fullback at others.
Camila’s injury is also bad news for Brazil, a national team in crisis following a coaching change which set off a spate of sudden retirements. Earlier this year, promising striker Gabi Nunes tore her ACL in a Tournament of Nations match against the United States.
The Pride will be in Portland on Saturday for the club’s first ever playoff match.
