HARRISON, N.J. —Bundled up in beanies and big coats, the U.S. women’s national team took the field on Saturday evening against England, expecting a tough match thanks to the bitterly cold conditions at Red Bull Arena. The official match report described conditions—in a somewhat understated fashion—as “26 degrees; chilly.” In front of a sell-out crowd of 26,500, England defeated the United States 1-0 thanks to the efforts of Ellen White cleaning up the leftovers on a corner kick during the 89th minute.
