The Houston Dash handily beat the Portland Thorns 3-0 on Saturday night, the Dash’s first win (and goals) since May 7th, a scoreless streak that lasted 567 minutes of play . A crowd of 5,661 was on hand to see the winless streak end on a warm night at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
Rachel Daly opened the scoring for the Dash in the 7th minute, when she got on the end of a ball intended for Melissa Henderson in Portland’s six-yard box and hit her shot just under the crossbar and in.
Celeste Boureille had the best chance of the half for the Thorns in the 25th minute, when Nadia Nadim set her up with a pass in Houston’s penalty area, but her shot sailed over the net.
Amber Brooks extended Houston’s lead against her former club in the 68th minute. Rebecca Moros’ shot deflected off a defender, and Brooks made a perfect run into the six-yard box to finish back post, her first goal in a Dash uniform.
Kelia Ohai added to the Dash lead in the 83rd minute when she dribbled past two Thorns defenders on the wing and slotted her shot far post past Michelle Betos.
Next up for Houston is an away game in Chicago against the Red Stars next Saturday, July 23rd, while Portland have next week off and will re-convene with a home game against the Seattle Reign on Saturday, July 30th.
