
The Portland Thorns came from behind to pull off a 2-1 win at home over Sky Blue FC on Saturday night, in front of 14,287 fans. With the win, the Thorns remain undefeated this NWSL season.
Natasha Kai opened the scoring for Sky Blue in the 29th minute. A cross by Leah Galton was picked up by Taylor Lytle on the edge of the six-yard box, who then chipped it to Kai, whose volley beat Michelle Betos.
Dagny Brynjarsdottir equalized for the Thorns 10 minutes later, when she cut through Sky Blue’s defence and headed in a corner from Nadia Nadim.
Portland took the lead in the 61st minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after Hayley Raso was taken down by Erin Simon. Nadim buried the penalty.
Sky Blue had a chance to equalize in the 85th minute, when second half sub Sam Kerr was put through on goal, but her shot sailed wide.
Next up for the Thorns is a home game next Saturday, July 9 against FC Kansas City, while Sky Blue is back at home next Saturday to host the Houston Dash.
