Reign, Blues battle to scoreless stalemate at Swope

FC Kansas City and Seattle Reign FC battled to a scoreless stalemate at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday night that left both teams searching for the form that propelled them to meetings in the last two NWSL Championships. FC Kansas City had the better chances of the night and the Reign had to survive the final few minutes with 10 women after Carson Pickett was shown a straight red for a studs-up tackle on Heather O’Reilly. But in the end it was clean sheets for Nicole Barnhart and Hope Solo and more points dropped for both clubs.

FC Kansas City though are now unbeaten in four straight after opening the season by going a half dozen matches without cracking the win column. The club has also played six straight without conceding a goal from open play. The Reign meanwhile extended their club record by posting a fourth consecutive shutout but have reached the halfway point of the season as a .500 team.

Both sides return to action Saturday, July 2 by which time their United States internationals will be in camp. FC Kansas City (2-4-4, 10 pts) head to Washington to face the Spirit. The Reign (3-3-4, 13 pts) are back at Memorial Stadium to host the Breakers.
