Bev Yanez scored a blistering goal in the 17th minute but a Pablos Sanchon penalty cancelled it out and Seattle Reign FC played to a 1-1 draw against Laura Harvey’s former side, Arsenal Ladies. Yanez curled in her shot after Lindsay Elston’s chance was knocked away by a sliding keeper Emma Byrne. Elston had been played through by Havana Solaun.
Arsenal won the equalizing penalty when Kendall Fletcher made a sloppy challenge in the box on Vicky Losada. The play materialized with an Arsenal long ball, a play that has become emblematic of the Reign’s early season struggles. Sanchon then calmly knocked it in from the spot to knot the match.
The evening marked the return of Jess Fishlock, the Welsh midfielder who has not appeared in a match since suffering a broken bone in her leg April 24 against the Breakers. Fishlock was in the starting XI and figures to now be available for Sunday’s Pacific Northwest clash in Portland.
