Goals from captain Carli Lloyd, and rookies Rachel Daly and Janine Beckie were enough to lift the the Houston Dash to a 3-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston on Saturday night.
Chicago opened the scoring in the 13th minute when the ball slipped through the Houston defense and landed to Christen Press, who slotted it in past Houston keeper Lydia Williams. Daly equalized for Houston in the 22nd minute, when she picked up a loose ball outside Chicago’s 18-yard box and rocketed a shot past Red Stars keeper Alyssa Naeher.
But Houston turned up the pressure after the break, and added two goals just 10 minutes after half-time to take the lead. Lloyd scored in the 51st minute, a header off of a great feed from Daly, and Beckie added the third in the 54th minute.
The Dash (1-0-0, 3 points) next travel to Orlando to face the Pride for the first time on Saturday. The Red Stars (0-1-0, 0 points) have their home opener against the Western New York Flash next Saturday at their new home, Toyota Park.
