Germany got the inaugural SheBelieves Cup off with a 1-0 victory over France. Leonie Maier scored the goal in the 84th minute after Germany took a corner kick that looked to be harmless until France made a mess of the clearance.

The match was the first meeting between two-time world champion Germany and perennial also-ran France since their epic encounter at the World Cup when the Germans prevailed on penalties at the quarterfinal stage. Germany will play England on Sunday. France plays the United States.
