Lauren Barnes is a surprise addition to the United States roster for the SheBelieves Cup beginning next week. Also added to the group that qualified the U.S. to the Olympics are World Cup champions Heather O’Reilly and Whitney Engen. On Friday, head coach Jill Ellis named 22 women to represent the United States against Germany, France, and England. From the qualifying roster, Stephanie McCaffrey was dropped.

France and Germany also announced their SheBelieves Cup rosters on Friday. England announced earlier in the week. Those three sides all have 23 players.

Barnes has never been capped or even in camp with the senior national team. The 26-year old has spent all three NWSL seasons with Seattle Reign FC helping win the Shield and reach the NWSL Championship the last two seasons. She is the franchise’s all-time leader in games played (65), started (64), and minutes (5,648). In 2015 Barnes was named to the league’s Best XI.

O’Reilly was a news maker for her absence from the qualifying roster but the veteran of more than a decade is back in the team with an eye toward making the trip to Rio. The 31-year old has been capped by the U.S. on 228 different occasions.
