NWSL Golden Boot winner Crystal Dunn is the lone addition to Jill Ellis’ roster for two upcoming World Cup victory tour matches against Haiti. All 23 players from the World Cup roster are on Ellis’ latest roster, but forward Christen Press will miss the second game due to a family commitment.
Haiti will serve as the United States’ opponent on Sept. 17 in Detroit and Sept. 20 in Birmingham, Ala., after Australia pulled out of the matches amidst a player strike with the federation over compensation.
“We are sincerely appreciative to Haiti for organizing their team to come for these two matches and they will enjoy the environments in Detroit and Birmingham,” Ellis said. “For us, it’s another opportunity to get the group together, stay connected and focus on our performance as we continue to prepare for Olympic qualifying. Many of the players have had a short break since the end of the NWSL season and others will be coming out of the semifinals, so we’ll take that all into account. We’re looking forward to putting on entertaining matches for our fans to continue to celebrate the success this summer.”
Dunn, whose Washington Spirit club plays Seattle Reign FC in the NWSL semifinals on Sunday, scored 15 goals this NWSL season after being of the last two players cut from the 2015 World Cup roster. She is listed as a defender on the United States’ roster.
