The Washington Spirit’s loss to the Seattle Reign on Saturday night set the final field for the 2015 NWSL playoffs.
The Spirit loss handed home-field advantage for a semifinal to the Chicago Red Stars who will host their Midwest Melee rivals FC Kansas City next Sunday, September 13 at 1:30 pm EDT. The match will take place at Toyota Park.
The nightcap will feature the Reign hosting the Spirit. It will be a rematch of Saturday’s regular season finale as well as their 2014 semifinal won by the Reign. In that match the Spirit went ahead in the 65th minute before Kim Little tied it in the 72nd. Diana Matheson had a chance to give the Spirit another lead in the 78th but her penalty was saved by Hope Solo. The Reign finally prevailed when Megan Rapinoe dispossessed Toni Pressley and scored one-v.-one on Ashlyn Harris in the 82nd minute.
Both playoff matches will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1.
