England captain Steph Houghton injured her knee at the Cyprus Cup and will be out 8-10 weeks. The FA said in a statement that Houghton’s World Cup is not in doubt.
Houghton will also miss the start of the FA WSL season for Manchester City.
“She’s obviously very disappointed and at first she was concerned about the possibility of missing the World Cup,” England coach Mark Sampson told BBC.
“But once the injury was assessed and she was assured that she would be back in around a couple of months, she was far more relaxed about the situation.”
Houghton picked up the injury in Friday’s 3-0 win over Australia.
England will play Canada in Wednesday’s final in a rematch of the 2013 final. England has made the Cyprus Cup final for three of the past four years, while this will be Canada’s seventh final in eight tournaments.
