Australians Caitlin Foord and Sam Kerr have signed with Sky Blue FC and will join the team following the Women’s World Cup.
The pair were a package deal, as Sky Blue FC coach Jim Gabarra describes it. The two players wanted to play together. Foord has played for Sky Blue for the first two seasons of the National Women’s Soccer League. Kerr’s rights were acquired by Sky Blue FC in a trade with the Western New York Flash in November.
“These signings are going to give our club a real boost over the second half of the season,” Gabarra said. “Even though Caitlin and Samantha are still at a really young age, they have a lot of experience at the international level and in our league. I am looking forward to them continuing their huge developmental trajectory.”

Both players are expected to represent Australia at the Women’s World Cup this year. Foord is a 20-year-old defender who can play anywhere on the wing. She played in 36 games for Sky Blue in 2013 and 2014. Kerr is a 21-year-old forward who scored 15 goals in two seasons with the Flash.
“I am really excited to be joining my Matildas teammate Caitlin Foord at Sky Blue FC,” Kerr said. “I of course also look forward to joining all my new teammates and meeting all the staff and fans of Sky Blue FC. I would like to take this opportunity also to thank the staff and fans of the Western New York Flash for my time at the club, but I am looking forward to a new challenge and helping Sky Blue FC be successful in the 2015 NWSL competition.”
Australia will play the United States, Nigeria and Sweden in Group D at the World Cup.
