Reigning German and European champions VfL Wolfsburg played Bayern Munich to a scoreless draw on Sunday to stay atop the Frauen-Bundesliga.
Melanie Behringer’s shot from seven yards out in the 29th minute was saved by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Almuth Schult after a nine-player wall couldn’t block the initial shot. Bayern earned the indirect free kick when Schult handled a ball that the referee determined to have been intentionally played back by a defender.
Luisa Wensing’s diving header in the 52nd minute was the best chance for Wolfsburg, but the effort went just wide.
Wolfsburg remain atop the league with 39 pts. from 15 matches. Bayern Munich have 37 pts. from 15 matches and neither team has lost. 1. FFC Frankfurt and Turbine Potsdam remain in contention with 34 pts. apiece.
Wolfsburg are two-time defending league champions and two-time defending European champions.
