U-17 USWNT readies for invitational tournament

For the second straight year, U.S. Soccer will host a four-team U-17 women’s international tournament in Carson, Calif., from Feb. 11-15.

The U.S. will host Canada, Japan and Mexico at the National Training Center with doubleheaders on Feb. 11, 13 and 15. Japan won the 2014 U-17 Women’s World Cup after playing in last year’s tournament.

All games next month will be streamed live on ussoccer.com.

“At this point in the cycle we want to continuously asses both individual player development and team development,” U.S. U-17 coach B.J. Snowsaid . “There is no better way to accomplish this than to compete against highly sophisticated and organized teams in a tournament environment. This should give us a great indication of where we are as team with a little over a year left before World Cup Qualifying.”

The 2016 U-17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Jordan. CONCACAF qualifying for the tournament will take place in March 2016. The U.S. U-17 women failed to qualify for last year’s World Cup.
