Six days after trading away leading scorer Jodie Taylor, the Washington Spirit have landed Argentine forward Estefania Banini. The 24-year-old spent the previous four seasons playing for Colo Colo in Chile.
“Estefania is an exceptional talent and I do not think there is a player like her in the league,” Spirit coach and general manager Mark Parsons said in a statement. “She is going to give the team a very different dynamic and provide us with real quality in the final third.”
Banini was equally as excited to be heading to Washington where she will fill an international spot for the club. “It is difficult to express in words what one feels to fulfill a dream and join a club like Washington Spirit. I am extremely excited and eager to arrive and begin this journey with a great team. I am grateful to the club and Mark for this opportunity.
Argentina did not qualify for the World Cup so Banini should be able to play with the Spirit without interruption.
