FC Kansas City will open its defense of its National Women’s Soccer League title at Sporting Park — the home of MLS side Sporting Kansas City — on April 12 against Sky Blue FC.
This will be FC Kansas City’s first match at Sporting Park. The NWSL champions announced last week that Swope Park will be the new home of the team for training and matches. Swope Park is owned and operated by Sporting Kansas City. The agreement between the MLS and NWSL clubs includes shared marketing and the use of Sporting Park for select FC Kansas City games.
“We can’t think of a better place to begin this new journey into the 2015 season,” Huw Williams, FC Kansas City director of soccer operations said. “It is a world-class venue that is truly fitting of what is sure to be an amazing season opener between two great teams.”
The seating capacity for Sporting Park is 18,467.
“I am extremely excited and happy to have a chance to play at one of the nicest soccer venues in the country,” FC Kansas City head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “Being able to secure Sporting Park for our home opener and Swope Soccer Village as our new home this season takes our team to a whole different level.”
