Portland Thorns FC acquired English striker Jodie Taylor from the Washington Spirit on Friday in a draft-day blockbuster trade.
Taylor led the Spirit in 2014 with 11 goals. The Thorns entered the day without a draft pick, but acquired the No. 13 overall draft pick and a second-round pick in the 2016 draft from the Houston Dash for forward Jessica McDonald. Portland immediately turned around and traded both of their 2016 second-round picks and that No. 13 pick in the 2015 draft to the Spirit in exchange for Taylor.
Taylor is a former Oregon State player who set the school goal-scoring record with 47 goals in four years. She played in one World Cup qualifying match for England.
McDonald scored 11 goals in 24 games — 13 of which were starts — in a breakout 2014 season for Portland.
